The Science Champions Academy is a coordinated effort to involve teachers, schools, districts, and science education leaders in enhancing the quantity and quality of science teaching in Bay Area elementary schools.
Since 2007, over 500 Bay Area teachers have participated in Science Champions Academy workshops and seminars designed to give them the opportunity to:
-
Practice science inquiry as it relates to science practices in the Next Generation Science Standards—asking questions, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, and arguing from evidence.
-
Experience hands-on activities and videos of classrooms that illuminate science practices in action.
-
Examine the links between the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and the Next Generation Science Standards.
-
Explore strategies for the effective use of science notebooks and classroom discourse.
-
Network with like-minded teachers to share strategies and support one another in growing their classroom practice and leadership in science.
